School Messenger: Afternoon Transportation Services

Good evening, Brassfield Families! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with some important transportation information.

Brassfield is tier 3 building, meaning that our buses often run 2 routes prior to transporting Brassfield students. With traditional schools back in session this week, several buses did not leave campus this afternoon until well after their regularly scheduled departure times.

Given the uncertainty of bus departure times, until traditional schools have settled in, we ask that all requests for changes in afternoon transportation be made to our office prior to 3:00pm. This is to ensure that we can accommodate all requests in a safe and efficient manner. Providing our families with the best customer service possible is a priority.

All bus departure times will continue to be communicated out live via Twitter, including communication from the Transportation department should buses be running well behind schedule. Families are not required to be members of Twitter to follow this information, which can also be found on our website under News.

While we cannot predict at this time which buses may continue to be impacted with the start of the traditional calendar, we can anticipate that it may take a week or so for transportation services to acclimate. If your family has a time sensitive obligation after school, and there is any likelihood that you may need to pick up your child prior to his/her bus arriving on campus, please make an afternoon transportation change request before 3:00pm.

Thank you for your patience.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

School Messenger: Sunday, August 24, 2014

Good evening, Brassfield Families! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with some important updates and reminders for the school week of Monday, August 25th - Friday, August 29th

Tomorrow, Monday, August 25th is 'Multiplicity' Spirit Day. I am so excited to see all of the awesome school spirit! No dinner plans yet? Please join us tomorrow evening for aSpirit Night at Zaxby's at either of their 8812 Harvest Oaks Drive or 995 Durham Road locations.

This Friday, August 29th, students on Tracks 1 & 3 will kick off our PTA's 2014-2015 fundraising efforts by participating in Brassfield's first Walk-a-thon of the school year. Our $35,000 annual goal, across all tracks, will directly support the learning and teaching at Brassfield by providing our school community access to necessary digital tools and programming, curricular and professional development, relevant 21st century instructional initiatives, and more. If you are planning to volunteer at this exciting event, please communicate with your child's teacher to ensure that you have received WCPSS volunteer clearance. Only pre-registered, approved volunteers may attend.

I'm looking forward to another wonderful week of meaningful learning and teaching ahead!

Have a fantastic night!

Lockdown Drill

The safety and welfare of our students is our number one priority at Brassfield. Our building has a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan in place, and in order to familiarize our school community with their roles and responsibilities associated with this plan, we will be conducting a  Lockdown drill this week. This will be a collaborative effort among Brassfield faculty and staff, the WCPSS' Security Department, and local law enforcement.
